Post-Season Honors and National Ranking Highlight CSUF Men's Lacrosse Team 2008 Season
Five All-Conference Selections, three Academic All-America awards, three All-America awards, and going from unknown to 35th ranked in nation leaves a bittersweet taste.

Press Release - May 19, 2008

FULLERTON, CA - No scholarships? No problem. With a budget of over $22,000 raised through fundraising and player dues, the CSUF Men's Lacrosse Team concluded their first season as a full member of the Men's Collegiate Lacrosse Association Division 2. While other teams in the league boast budgets of up to $300,000, the team understands they must crawl before they can run as they work to establish their program.

This season brought an entirely new set of challenges and experiences for the team as they played the toughest schedule in their conference (WCLL-2). Their schedule included games against five teams ranked in the Top 25, with notable Division 2 teams such as Fort Lewis College of Colorado (#7), Western Oregon University (#9), Pepperdine University (#25), UC Santa Cruz (#24) and eventual conference champion Biola University (#19). In addition to this, CSUF played Division 1 opponents USC and UCLA. They concluded the season with a shootout in the desert against UNLV.

The season was highlighted by a northern California sweep of University of the Pacific and San Jose State University, which the Titans won with a combined score of 25-12. The climax of the season came as CSUF welcomed defending conference champion and rival UCI at Titan Stadium on March 13th, and sent them home with a 15-6 stomping. The young CSUF team finished 3rd in the WCLL (2-2), and was led by their first recruiting class, as well as their veteran players. Offensively, three CSUF players ranked in the Top 10 Scorers in the WCLL-2, led by Jesse Luchansky (24g, 28a), Scott Richardson (31g, 15a), and Jimmy Lin (32g, 13a). Freshman Goalie Ozhan Kashkooli anchored their young defensive unit.

Five players received WCLL All-Conference honors including; Scott Richardson (First Team - Attack), Jesse Luchansky (First Team - Midfield), Kyle Smith (First Team - Face-Off Specialist), Ricardo Martinez (First Team - Long Stick Midfield), and Ozhan Kashkooli (Second Team - Goalie). Luchansky, Smith, and Martinez also received MCLA Academic All-America awards for their outstanding work on the field and in the classroom. In addition to this, Luchansky was also honored as a Third Team All-America Midfielder, and Richardson and Smith were awarded Honorable Mention All-America Attack and Face-Off Specialist, respectively.

Despite the numerous accomplishments in their inaugural season, Head Coach Ryland Huyghue and Assistant Coach Frank Podsiadlik understand there is a lot of room to grow and improve if they want to attain all of their goals. The team is hungry after missing the conference championship game by one game and the National Tournament by two. They look forward to next season as they continue towards their goal of bringing home a National Championship. Stayed tuned as the team announces their 2008-2009 recruiting class.
